What is shamanism?
Shamanic techniques have been practiced all over the world. Shamanism
is an ancient method of healing and the oldest known spirituality. It is
tied indelibly to nature, animals, the cycles of the seasons, and the elements.
Shamans worked with the spirits of the natural world in which they lived.
Shamans and shamanic practitioners enter altered states of consciousness
on behalf of a person or community in need of healing. They attain an altered
state of consciousness often by listening to a monotonous beat. Their consciousness
leaves their body to travel into non-ordinary reality where the spirits
reside. In this place, their spirit helpers and guides can advise them on
the best way to assist the healing of their client.
Many people today are returning to the ancient practices of shamanism.
They are still useful and beneficial today, and can result in amazing,
often miraculous, healings.
I feel that with our return to the ancient practices of shamanism, and
our search for spiritu
al healing and wholeness, Western culture is coming
full circle and returning to its spiritual roots.
Shamanism is an important part of our healing, and an important part
of our return to wholeness.
